Greater Manchester faces major environmental challenges that threaten the health and prosperity of the region. Action is being taken to mitigate the impact of climate change through a 5-year environment plan to achieve net zero by 2038. Full details of the plan can be found here.

With business activity accounting for roughly a third of the region’s carbon emissions, we will only achieve this goal if policymakers work together with businesses to achieve this.

Green Economy has been working with local business owners to help them to decarbonise their businesses, whilst growing green technologies and services firms to ensure we are able to meet increased demand. Together we have achieved:

  • 2.2 million tonnes C02e reduction
  • £500 million saved in energy, material and waste costs
  • £11m sales increased for local green tech firms
