A new independent Solar Calculator has been launched today, helping commercial and domestic property owners understand the capability and cost savings from installing solar.

The free calculator, which is launched by Green Economy in partnership with Eturnity, provides homeowners and business leaders with an impartial view of the feasibility of solar panels on their property, providing a free report on likely generation capacity, carbon savings, indicative costs, and payback periods.

Speaking of the calculator, Amy House, Director of Green Economy said:

“We know customer confidence is a major blocker when investing in green technologies. Buyers want assurances that they’re buying the best products, at the right price, from the best provider and this calculator arms customers with impartial knowledge to secure that.”

The calculator, developed by Eturnity, simulates roof direction, shape and location to map the potential of solar on roof space. It has been tailored to simplify and provide a picture of costs benchmarked by local suppliers. Once the report has been generated there is an option to work with a procurement specialist to refine the project and secure a local expert to design and install on site.

Amy said:

“Solar is one of the simplest and most effective routes to reducing energy bills and making progress on your environmental commitments.

“In Greater Manchester, the local roof space has the potential to generate 4.8m MWh of electricity every year and I hope this tool can accelerate that opportunity, by providing business leaders and homeowners with the knowledge to seize the power of the sun - for the good of the planet and their wallet.”

The Solar Calculator is free to use via Green Economy’s website. Access the tool here.
